Notice: Passengers Flying to China Are Required to Take COVID-19 Nucleic Acid Tests and Produce the Test Negative Certificates Before Boarding

To ensure the health and safety of international travel and reduce the risk of cross-border spread of the epidemic, the Civil Aviation Administration, the General Administration of Customs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China issued a Joint Announcement on Requiring China-bound Passengers to obtain COVID-19 Test Negative Certificates before Boarding.

The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Ethiopia would like to notify that, starting from 24th August 2020, all Chinese and foreign passengers departing from or transferring via Addid Ababa on China-bound flights are required to take nucleic acid tests and produce the COVID-19 test negative certificates before boarding.

The specific requirements are as follows:

I. All Chinese and foreign passengers flying to China are required to take nucleic acid tests for COVID-19 within 5 days before boarding.

II. As the International Clinical Laboratories (ICL) is the only institute currently authorized by the Ethiopia government to do the testing for the public, passengers could go and do the testing at ICL, address: Churchill road on the way to “Piassa”, in front of Lise Gebremariam School at AYU SHASHE building and in front of Minilik Hospital; contact telephone: 011-4671818; email address for appointment: degefech@icladdis.com/

III. The Ethiopian Airlines will check the COVID-19 test negative certificates at the Airport. Passengers who do not have the test negative certificates will not be allowed on board.

IV. For transit passengers, please kindly note that there is no nucleic acid test service in the transit area of the Bole international airport in Addis Ababa for the time being. All Chinese and foreign passengers who transit via Ethiopia to China should complete the nucleic acid test and produce their test negative certificates in the departure country in advance. Otherwise, they will be returned to the departure country.

V. Foreign passengers, departing from Ethiopia and stopping over in a third country before connecting flights to China, are required to produce their COVID-19 test negative certificates to the Embassy when applying for the Health Declaration Forms (see attachment) within 5 days before boarding. Foreign passengers, within 24 hours after getting the test negative results, should send to the email address (consulate_et@mfa.gov.cn) the scanned copies of: 1) information page of the valid passport, 2) COVID-19 test negative certificate and, 3) Health Declaration Form signed by the applicant. After the due verification, the Chinese Embassy will send back a scanned copy of the stamped Health Declaration Form to the applicants through email. The applicant should print out one copy of the Form and carry them to the airport. Please make sure to board the flight within the validity period of the Health Declaration Form and cooperate with the staff of the airlines for further checking.

VI. Passengers who provide false test results or information will bear corresponding legal liabilities.

VII. The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ethiopia reserves the right to final interpretation of the above arrangements.
