On July 8th, 2009, H.E. Ambassador Gu Xiaojie was interviewed by a journalist from ENA. Mr. Gu introduced the cooperation between China and Ethiopia in the fields of economy, culture, human resource training and so on.
Mr. Gu said, the frequent exchange of high-level officials between the two countries and the long-standing friendship between the two peoples had lead to a more and more healthy and stable bilateral relationship with stronger political mutual trust and enhancing trade and economic cooperation. Since the establishment of the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2000, China’s investment to and trade with Ethiopia had been growing rapidly with rising number of Chinese enterprises and widening fields. Fruitful results have been achieved in the fields of infrastructure such as telecommunications, roads, hydro-power plants and so on.
Mr. Gu said, the two countries had also strengthened the cooperation in sectors such as culture, education, human resource development and cultural relics protection, which considerably promoted the all-around relations and people to people contacts.
Mr. Gu emphasized that, it would be the 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-Ethiopian diplomatic ties next year. The Chinese government cherished the traditional relationship with Ethiopia, considered Ethiopia an important partner of China in Africa, and would join in hands with Ethiopia to continuously promote bilateral relations to even a higher stage.
